A close friend has 2 little dogs and over the years has slowly made them the center of her life. She doesn't go out anymore - doesn't want to leave them alone. Never vacations as she wouldn't trust anyone with them. She has a webcam so she can watch them while she's at work. She knits clothes and booties for them and makes their food from scratch. The latest thing is that she has built a photography studio in her house and has taken all of these pics (ala glamour shots) with the dogs. I love animals, but I think she's a few fries short of a happy meal.

My idiot brother can't even look after himself and has decided to buy his alcoholic girlfriend (who is afraid of dogs) a puppy to help her get over her fear of dogs and because "she needs to care for something". So what did the pick, a little amiable spaniel or a goofy lab? No, a dogue de bordeaux (Hooch from Turner &). Now, I'm not one of those people that think certain dog breeds are evil (in fact I love those dogs and would love to own one myself), but a dog like that NEEDS someone who knows what they are doing and can deal with training in a fair and firm manner and deal with dominance issues, because in the wrong hands they can be dangerous. Also, they grow huge. He couldn't even train a lab mix, who ended up shut up in a kennel outside all day until we rescued him, exactly the sort of treatment that might cause a mastiff to become aggressive...and it will be some innocent kid the dog attacks, not his family. I don't know WTF is wrong with him but he will not listen to sense. Ugh.

It really bugs me when people who know jack about dogs start ragging on "dangerous" breeds like pit bulls, staffies etc. I had a friend "inform" me that staffies have special teeth, so that once they grab something they can't let go. So, what they just starve to death whilst holding on to someone's leg? The worst part is I have a degree in an animal related science and they still insist they are right. Nothing wrong with being ignorant on a topic, but claiming blindly you are right, when someone shows you evidence otherwise, is ridiculous.

Dogs should never be chained up...this is what makes them aggressive, especially guarding and ex-fighting breeds. Dogs belong in the house with their family.

There's a guy in our neighborhood that walks his big 'ol pitbull on a 20' lead and seriously just stops at the end of our driveway and lets his dog get our dogs all worked up. Ours are in the fenced in yard, just barking and going nuts and he just stands there. He also lets his dog into our yard as long as that 20' lead will let it go. Last night he was just hanging out at the end of our driveway, his dog halfway up our drive, and DH went out and said something to him. Move it along, dude! WTF? It's like this guy's never had a dog before, he's oblivious! That pitbull walks HIM, not the other way around. If it was a one-time thing we would blow it off but he does it at least once a week. If my little Boston Terrier somehow escaped that pit would eat him (COULD eat him) in one bite.

I talk to my dogs and we cuddle on the couch to watch TV and I'm sure some people would find it wierd. I sure don't care.

I don't care what people think about what I do for my animals. We just celebrated my dd's dogs bday. I made him a cake and dressed him in a tux. We spoil them, dress them up for holidays ect.... If people don't like it I DON'T CARE. It's my life and my animals.

I love animals and as much as I want to *show* some of my neighbors they should keep their dogs chained up by calling animal control, I wouldn't do it.

A few years ago, we lived in a place where our neighbors across the street had about 4 dogs that they let outside by themselves, no fence or anything to keep them from running after cars or people. On day, there was only 1 outside laying on the sidewalk, I was carrying something heavy outside, my dog made a run for it with the whole 2 seconds my door was open. My dog chased my neighbors dog out of the area. He was gone a good 15 minutes. He made his way home, but we never saw the neighbors dog ever again. Although they still let the other dogs outside alone. And after that, my dog has been either put out in the backyard or in my bedroom when I have to open the door.

I have my Rottweiler enrolled in a Canine Good Citizen obedience class. There are a lot of people there with show dogs and this one lady who has a Corgi keeps hassling me about my dog, telling me that her form is bad/she must be vicious/etc. Meanwhile, her nasty, pretty little show Corgi growled at and bit the trainer several times. I don't know...she just kind of pisses me off in general, I guess.
