You know what grosses me out? Nutella. I've never tried it, but the idea of it and the ingredients gross me out. It is in no way nut butter of any kind. And those hershey spreads? It's fucking frosting! "Here ya go, America! Put frosting on EVERYTHING!" *muahahahaha* How stupid do they think we are? Wait, don't answer that.

I wish I had talked to my Grandmother more. She was born in 1906 and came to this country at age 20. She came to work as a nanny and sent money back home to her parents, not realizing at the time she'd never return to Europe. Her town was dessimated by war and depression. She studied chemistry before coming to America, but never finished her college education. Her parents were very progressive for that time. She didn't marry and have kids until her mid to late 30's. She was a working woman for many years, spoke three languages. Cars and televisions were strange things to her, marvels that perplexed and scared her at times. She never really learned how to drive properly.....BUT...as a senior citizen learned to navigate the internet with ease. "Oh I used to work with computers in the 70's," was her airy reply. She never lost her thick accent. I took her for granted. Now she is gone.

I don't want my kid to succeed if she does things the wrong way. Like, if I tell her to do things a certain way and she does it a different way because she's lazy or defiant, I want her to fail. Does this make me a fucked up mom? I'm being serious. I'm not American and I think Americans in general want their kids to be happy no matter what. It is not this way in my culture.

I truly don't understand the ISIS and Jordan thing going on right now. Or why everyone is mad at the Pres for not doing anything? I'm so confused. I see some Americans cheering for Jordan, but why? ugh. I hate myself sometimes I can be so ignorant.

My former DIL entered the family with an illegitimate child who is charming, personable and a delight. Everyone loves her. The DIL on the other hand is disliked because she has so far manipulated everyone in the family. Pretty soon her H, my SS, was running up tens of thousands of dollars on his credit card to send to support her family in the Philippines. They all quit their jobs when she married the rich American. So he's running up these bills which he then can't pay. The whole family stepped in to pay his credit card, cost us all a lot of money so he wouldn't be subject to debt collection and car repo. We are just supposed to accept this. Even though we like the kid, it is sometimes hard to forget the con her mother pulled on the family and sometimes some of us are standoffish to both of them. Not fair to the kid, but she represents the problem that no one asked for. (This is part of reason I am no longer part of this dysfunctional family.)

For the OP on the apathetic Germans: I am a first generation American. My mom immigrated from Germany as an adult in the mid 60s. She remembered WWII. She was 9 when the war ended. *I* have the guilt associated with that horrible time. Her dad was older and did not serve in the military. He was a local police officer and they were in a very small town. He was taken away at the end of the war and was gone for months. I am not sure where you have found this "information" about Germans being apathetic towards what they did to the 6 million plus people during the war. I don't have any more family that I can ask.....What I do know is they collectively have the guilt. I am not sure what is going on with the young people there right now. I would venture to guess not so much (guilt) or we would not see the demonstrations we are seeing. But the older people, they have it. I was raised to never forget. Treat everyone fairly. Separation of church and state. My mom sent my brother and I to Temple, Catholic and Mormon services -with friends from school so we could experience how other people worship. We were protestant. FWIW, I and my 14yo dd watch stuff about that time and things like Schindler's list. We talk about how this must never happen again. But you know what? It's happening right now somewhere in the world. Sorry this is so long. Your anger is justified. What I would say to you is take that energy and fight for the injustices that are going on RIGHT NOW.

Why do so many female newscasters look so ridiculous these days? Long Miss America hair, tons of makeup, tight sleeveless dresses....you look bizarre.

Do you feel the need to apologise every time you see a Native American face, for untold years of misery, genocide and butchery of their people? Yeah I thought not. Apparently it's only Muslims who need to make apologies for actions for which they are not personally responsible.

Out of curiosity, I just Googled Most Racist State and found a study that analysed racists tweets based on geocodes, then measured those against general population of the state, etc. Based on the data, Texas came out #1 (Mississippi was #2). Here's the link: http://atlantablackstar.com/2014/05/14/t...

I never heard of Robert E Lee Day in place of MLK Day. However, he is one of the tragic heroes in American history. He was an outstanding and admired graduate of West Point who had the option of serving in either the Union or Confederate army. He was born in Virginia and couldn't forsake his own state, so he chose the Confederacy after a gut-wrenching duel of conscience. He served with honor and character, doing what he believed he had to do. After the war, he served as prestigious president of a fine university. Lee had a full understanding of what duty meant, and though his pursuit of his duty more or less ruined his own life, he stood fast. History has now been rewritten by the victors! Read up on the man Robert E. Lee and understand who he was and why people revered him.
