do non-judgemental vegans exist? my best friend has been vegan for about 2 months which is totally cool. she came to visit me last week and, knowing this, i made sure to stock my kitchen with things she could eat and only ate at vegan restaurants or restaurants with vegan options. sometimes i ate vegan with her, other times i didn't. the times when i would eat meat or dairy, she would always have something snarky to say about it under the guise of "caring about my health". other times she would just stare at me while i ate with a disgusted look on her face. she never used to be like this considering she used to eat these things too less than 60 days ago. it makes me sad and not want to eat with her anymore.

Dh, ds and I were just chilling out, dh was texting a colleague about their next job. I got a text. I announced to them that Uncle passed, and ds came over to console me when I started crying. Dh? He looked up from the phone and said, "I'm sorry," and continued texting. I said I was going to go sit outside, and as I was grabbing a drink from the kitchen, I saw/heard ds go up to my husband and tell him to go give me a hug. Dh came over and gave me a side hug. A fucking SIDE HUG. Both of my parents had passed by the time I was 23. My aunt and uncle have been my "parents" for 30 years. He knows this. 45 minutes later and I'm still sitting outside...alone...

Maybe if food service workers were paid $15 an hour your order would be correct because the person in the kitchen might not have to work three jobs and would be able to afford a car. That person might be getting four hours of sleep a night. They might be homeless. I know it sucks that your order was wrong but there are a lot of things wrong in this world, and on this Labor Day weekend, this is an interesting post. You are right to be irritated by what happened and the manager was right to give you a refund and the gift cards. All I'm saying is that minimum wage workers are living a life that you and I might not be able to understand, and we can use a little empathy.

My DH is one of the more useless men when it comes to domestic chores. His mom was a SAHM and got a lot of pleasure out of cooking for her boys and husband and to this day, DH and his brothers and dad are all totally useless in the kitchen. My DH "can" do things for himself, but he doesn't because he thought that was what your mom/wife did for you because they love you. Which yeah, I do love him. But I don't show my love that way because I have a FULL TIME JOB. If my DH wants all the luxuries of a SAH spouse, then he should allow me to either quit or work PT and do all that for him.

I’ve hired a moving company to move my Dad’s stuff a week from tomorrow. Explained that he needs to pack dishes, kitchen items, bath towels, etc. to take to the apartment. Called him today and he had gone to the grocery store instead. He was cleaning drawers in his computer desk a-l-l day! I asked about change of address and he said he made new address labels and he’s going to send them to the utility companies, credit cards, and trash company with his next bill. Doesn’t believe in ‘putting all that info on the internet.’ I finally told him that whatever he has together for the movers is all he’ll have at the new place. It’s like dealing with a three-year-old sometimes!

On this topic: My DH has invited 11 adults and 9 children over for a dinner party. Deep fried chimichangas. And HE is cooking. He's never had to plan, shop for, or execute anything like this and I'm just going to sit back and let the chips fall where they may. And pray he doesn't light my kitchen on fire.

I agree 100%! My mom passed away several years ago and my dad has basically become a hermit. His house is a hoarder nightmare (DH got SEVEN huge trash bags of junk mail from his kitchen yesterday), he’s about to lose his house, and hasn’t been paying bills. Had the tables been turned, Mom would have sold the house years ago, moved into a smaller place, and carried on. Everyone thought Dad was the strong one in their marriage. It was Mom.

On Easter morning, I was enjoying a cup of coffee and browsing the Internet before getting ready for church. After a while I looked at the clock and figured that I'd better go wake ds so he could get something to eat before getting ready. But just then I heard his bedroom door handle click, the door squeak open, and footsteps. Good - he was up, so I headed to the downstairs bathroom to shower. When ds and I caught up in the kitchen, he said it was funny that the dog could now open his bedroom door. Um...the dog was sitting next to me when the door opened. Ds insisted that he hadn't gotten up and opened his door. We were both like, "Then who opened the door?" Then I remembered that it was the anniversary of my dad's death. I like to think that ds' grandpa, who died when I was 21, went to wake him :)

I love my son, but I can’t stand playing the games he makes up. I like that he has such a creative imagination... but when it comes to playing with him it’s awful. Even if I don’t want to play he includes me in the game (I’ll be in the middle of cooking and he’ll come into the kitchen and start playing like I’m part of his game), he’s bossy (tells me what to say every 3 seconds and if there’s props he rips them out of my hands to show me how to use them right), there is absolutely NO logic to his games and when i ask him to explain he just repeats what he already said or gets crabby with me. So I tell him I don’t want to play and he whines and pouts because he doesn’t want to play alone, but refuses to play any regular game like hide and seek or tag or something basic.

Where I live, we have well water and a water softening system. We had a guy out last week to do the annual service check. I don't know what he did, but our water is full of iron now, even though it's backwashed/regenerated three times since then. Out of the tap it's orange. The white kitchen sink, tubs and toilets (one that we installed the day before he came) are all stained orange with iron. When I wash my hands, they smell like iron. I take 3-5 bubble baths a week, but I haven't been able to, and I'm afraid to wash my hair because I recently dyed it black and I'm afraid there's going to be a reaction. Thank God we have a built-in filtering system for drinking water! They can't come back out until Monday afternoon. I need a bubble bath so badly.
