I don't think immigrants are treated well, but I do think it's somewhat unfair to provide free medical care to people who came here illegally while working Americans go broke paying for healthcare. Something's not right with that.

I live in Miami and am a middle-aged Caucasian woman. I've lived here for 35 years and now I don't think I could stand living in a place that is homogenous, all-white. I think living around people of different cultures - Caribbean (Haiti, Cuba, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Trini/Tobago), Central America (Honduras, Guatamala, El Salvador, Mexico), South America (Venezuelan, Colombian, Argentine) is AWESOME!!!! I am so glad I didn't grow up in a place where everyone is the same. The music, the food, the languages, dance and culture...I don't think I would have been happy in a boring place where everyone eats, drinks, talks and expresses themselves the same way. I've met so many wonderful people from all over the world. And yes, sometimes people have talked sh*t about me in Spanish, but so what? People have also sh&t talked me in English. (I am a so-so Spanish speaker but understand the language very well). Por favor, dame un cafectio, me socio!

As my husband and I were walking to our car an elderly lady yelled out to ask if my husband would help her with her groceries. My husband promptly crossed the street to help her with her bags and I followed. She was so grateful for it. We got to talking and she has had a very interesting life building schools in south America, Vietnam, Africa, and Asia. I was in awe of her until she started speaking about the Jews. I'm sure she said she understands why the Germans did what they did....then she hands us something about the golden rule. I'm pretty flabbergasted and I hope I just heard wrong.

It makes me laugh when people get upset at others speaking their own language(s) in their own time. Mind your business. Just because you were born here doesn't mean you own the place. Besides, there are plenty of people who were born here who are either bilingual or who made the effort to learn a second language. People who have had the privilege of an American education don't bother with Spanish have no right to complain.

I work hard for my money and live in a state that is overrun with illegals. My property taxes are higher than most states because we pay to educate their children, free medical care, etc. etc. I can go out and not hear a single word of English spoken in the stores all day. At the post office a Hispanic women cursed the guy at the window (in English) because he wouldn't speak Spanish to her. I'm all for helping people, but I'm tired of helping these people. I want to help the ones who were here first and can understand when I say something in English, the official language of the United States of America, where I was born.

It seems to me like an American thing to stop helping your children financially after they hit a certain age. In my husbands country it's normal to live with your parents until you're married to established enough to buy your own home. I feel like they're far more family centered than we are as a country.

I am the person that made the original post about white people smelling like wet dogs. I did not know it would start such drama. Like I said, I was around a lot of african-americans growing up and some of them made that comment when it rained. It was meant to be a joke, not meant to offend people. However, I have not posted anything about people smelling since then. I haven't gone back to look and see who is attacking this anonymous person but stop.

I went to community college. I sent my kids to a prestigious private women's college, a private church-affiliated college, and a private small liberal arts college. The one who started at the liberal arts college transferred to a community college and then to a state university, his choice. They have no college debt. I paid for their educations because I had a career and could afford it. The career that paid for their college started with the education I got at community college. I was a full scholarship student there because my family had no money. I also paid for half of my husband's college education because we married right out of community college and I went to work so he could concentrate on his studies. So - my free education at a community college eventually provided 4 more educations in our family. It is an American success story. No, we were not immigrants. Just poor and ambitious.

Med school tuition is $55,000 a year. No, its not a state school. It is, however, the top program in the field I want. I can't work, and do well in the program. So, I borrow $20,000 for living expenses. So that's $75,000 a year. I'm doing a five year program. So yeah, by graduation I'll owe $375,000. If I went to a state school, I'd still owe $300,000. And that's before interest. God bless America.
