I agree, southerners are no more polite than northeners. In fact, I've run into more ugliness down south than I ever did up north.

I have spent half my life up "nawth" as you said and half in the south. The folks in the south are absolutely not nicer than those up north. They may be more polite in a "bless your heart" kind of way, but it's all for show. They just want people to think they're nice, when in reality, they probably talked trash about that person they held the door for right after they did it, especially if they were disabled or of a different race or religion than them.

They were predicting another 5" of snow here and we just got this huge blizzard of over a foot of snow. I was seriously pissed about it but now it looks like it's staying south of us. Happy DANCE!!! And it's supposed to be in the 60s by this weekend, so the snow should be gone pretty quick.

I know a lot about other cultures. Have lived in China, had Filipino in-laws, been to many foreign countries in Asia, Europe and South America and the Caribbean. The takeaway is that every single culture believes it is superior to others. They don't all hate the U.S., in fact they admire us and want our financial stability and the things we own. They mostly don't want to give up their culture to get it. For instance, the Chinese thought we worked too hard - too many days and we retire too late in life. The South Americans couldn't believe we have such long work days because they like to nap. Europe want their long paid vacations and pay huge taxes so everyone can have free health care, but this means they have a lower quality of life overall and cannot own as much or drive as much (gas costs more and cars do also).

I live in South Carolina. We rarely have people being shitty to each other in day to day life. It is routine to say excuse me when passing in front of someone who is standing and looking at the shelf in the grocery store. We hold the door for people behind us or with packages in their arms coming out of the store. We stop in the parking lot to help someone who is having a hard time getting out of the car (old people, disabled, or juggling a couple of toddlers). Pretty much everyone does this. When we go up nawth we are appalled by how people treat each other. On the interstates here people aren't nice because they do cut others off, etc. But mostly it's pleasant because of the way we treat each other, including smiling at each other. Lived here 29 years, has been true throughout.

Wtf are you even talking about? This is some extreme ethnocentrism, right here. I've been to China, the Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, and Singapore. Yes, the culture is different, but maggot filled diapers in the gutter and trenches of shit different? No. Makes me think you either A) have never actually been to the places you named, or B) just enjoy being an ethnocentric, "America First" bigot. I'm gonna go with B. You want to talk poor quality of life, try Googling Flint, Michigan.

This happened to my Mil's laminate floors. She has pets and one of them peed while she was at work. By the time she saw it, it had totally warped the spot on the floor. She didn't get cheap floors, either. She also lives in southeast Texas, where the humidity is ridiculous, and you can see it warping in a few areas.

Different personalities is what really grossed me out about the Obamas. They are really well educated and speak with no discernible accent till they get around a group of Southern persons of color and start with the I'M JUST ONE OF YOU POOR FOLKS accent.,

i'm married and childfree. for me it's the lack of freedom and constant compromise that i hate about it. every single decision from the major to the mundane requires another person's input and it's tiring. i feel limited in the things i can do or places i can go. for example, i have a single friend who decided one day that she wanted to travel to the south pacific for 6 months. she was able to sell all her belongings, secure a work visa and have the experience of a lifetime. i would never be able to do anything remotely as adventurous like that as a married woman. i feel that as long as i'm married, i'm unable to live life to its fullest. for some women, being married and living in the burbs is their dream - and that's fine - but it's definitely not mine.

I don't understand why automobile makers don't put rear air in all SUVs. Why is a mid-size SUV made with no air? It is ridiculous. It may not be a problem in some areas but when you live in the South, it is a necessity for your passengers. I found a vehicle I like but I have to pass because no rear air. So frustrating!
