My reading comp is fine, thanks. You're making it sound like having a baby prematurely is no big deal. As someone who's been a NICU nurse, lemme tell ya, even a couple weeks early can be a big fucking deal. Just because hypothetically a woman CAN deliver early, doesn't mean that it's what's best for her. What if the mother can't handle the stress of having a premature baby? If she can't handle the medical bills? If she can't handle knowing that her baby still might not survive after all of the above? It's about what is best for the person who is pregnant and allowing them and their medical team the chance to do what's right for that specific woman. Someone asked about it being right or wrong, and there is no right or wrong.

I am a total supporter of abortion rights. And I don't think NY should change their law. But I have to disagree with you. There are women who will terminate their pregnancy when it is almost full term. I know one personally. She found out her BF was cheating on her and terminated at 36 weeks. She found a doctor who did them illegally. My aunt is an ER nurse. They see women all the time who try to terminate themselves very close to the due date. The vast majority of women won't do this, but a lot do.

Back in the day, we'd hook each other up to an IV (just fluids) if we felt dehydrated, were recovering from a stomach bug, were hungover, etc. Being a nurse has it's perks lol. The doctors did it, too. It's amazing how much better you feel when you're hydrated. I don't know about vitamin IVs, though. Sounds pretty gimmicky and potentially dangerous if done by the wrong person.

Wow. I remember now why I barely ever come here anymore. I was not angry with the CNA who was trying to feed my mom cold food. It's just--he was wondering why the heck she wasn't just eating it. She couldn't tell him she didn't like cold food and I think he was just a bit clueless. That's been the pattern though...my mom can't talk and tell anyone her likes and needs so she gets treated sort of like an animal by people who don't have time or resources to care for her more carefully. My family and I do go and visit and do what the CNAs and nurses can't. She did recently get moved to hospice, so we are very grateful for that. Oh, and I visit her like twice a week, so thanks for ASSuming I only see her once every six months.

Is your mom eligible for hospice? Hospice nurses can go into nursing homes to provide care, and it's a myth that people have to be on their deathbed to qualify. I'm a nurse and I don't work in a nursing home, because, most of the time, they are extremely overextended and overworked. Most operate with bare minimum staff. That being said, don't be afraid to report them if she's receiving subpar care. Your mom is lucky she has you. I'm so sorry you're going through this.

I don't mean to pick on nurses or CNAs, but I'm so fed up with the care my mom's been getting in the hospital. She didn't eat her lunch when it came, so they left it by her bed. Two hours later, the CNA came in (while I was there visiting) and tried to get her to eat cold mac and cheese and melted ice cream. She kept turning her head away and I said to him "You know, she might like that more if it were warm and if the ice cream was frozen? I wouldn't eat cold mac and cheese either". He got kind of huffy and left with the food and I mean...yeah, my mom can't really talk much now but who wants cold food? Yuck.

I understand this is anecdotal evidence, but I've been a nurse since 2001, and in all these years, I've wished hundreds, possibly thousands, of patients happy holidays, and never have I had even one person get upset about it. Never. And this is in Indiana, where all my fellow Hoosiers love to post on social media about the war on Christmas. Bunch of whiney babies. They're just butthurt because people want to be treated equally.

My mil just called me mean because I don’t want sil’s sick kids to touch me. I’m immunosuppressed and anytime someone even has the sniffles around me I’m sick for at least a week. She’s a nurse, she knows this. And yet she’s handing me the baby who has diarrhea, and laughing at me because the one who has been puking won’t stop trying to climb into my lap. Great way to start my morning.

I think your daughter will be fine. I'm 5'1, 105 lbs, and have looked 12 since I was 16. I know makeup makes me look older, but I just can't be bothered to paint my face at 5:30 am. I've had a long and steady career as a nurse, since I was 22. Sure, I've gotten loads of comments about how young I look ("are you even out of high school?!") from people over the years, but it hasn't hindered my career even slightly. I usually tell patients that I might look young, but I know exactly where to stick this catheter. She'll be okay, makeup or no makeup. Let her be.

You can be young and full of hope and have babies and not be royalty. I mean, c'mon. There are plenty of feel good stories about there about teachers, nurses, firefighters, people who contribute to society every day and do good things. I think royalty is silly. They may draw attention to some good causes and do some important work but for the most part the attention paid to them is all based on silly, outdated notions of "she's a princess!" or "he's going to be king, someday!". It's ridiculous. They got to that position by being born into it, not due to some extraordinary talent or hard work. Give me a story about a hard-working person who beat the odds.....or a parent of a special-needs child who achieved far beyond what anyone thought they would....and that will make me far happier than "What did Meghan Markle WEAR today?"
