I like Obama. I know he hasn't been the best President but I think he came in during a pretty awful time. So much civil unrest, war, The Depression, PTSD, healthcare, RACISM, technology, etc. He can only do so much with the little power he has. I don't know much about politics but it seems to me that he has to do things that he didn't want to do (like continue the war). There are people under him that also call the shots and they have their own agenda and it's not always good for We the People. I can't relate to the McCains or the Romneys or the Bush's of the world. Shit, I can't even relate to Palin and she's a woman. Hillary 2016...Please.

I saw on the news that the cops have some sort of radar that can intercept text messages being sent from vehicles. The purpose being to pull cars over that are emitting the text signal and issue tickets for texting & driving. A noble cause, I get it. But the cops can read the content of the texts. And- the texts are picked up even if it's the passenger sending the text. I don't think they've started using these yet but the technology is there.

Privacy laws have not been updated to take into account new technology. I'm sorry, but it's not OK to start a Facebook group shaming women who eat food on the train (yes this is a thing), or upload upskirt shots to Creepshots. People are entitled to share a public space without the worry they are going to end up online because of some freaky weirdo who enjoys taking pictures without people's consent. Being in a public place doesn't give people the right to destroy you online for whatever reason. It's happening far too often. No, you probably shouldn't be giving head in a public place, it's kind of obscene for anyone passing. But neither should you be afraid to wear a skirt or put a piece of chocolate in your mouth or simply look attractive in case someone takes a picture and posts it online.

My family has been having an annual reunion for the last 65+ years. Last year at the reunion, we arranged to Skype our relatives in rural Ukraine. My Great Aunt, who is 94, got to "meet" cousins, nieces, and nephews she's been writing to (snail mail) for decades but had never seen. They even took the computer outside and so she could see her parents' old house, which they still live in, and the church her parents attended and were married in shortly before coming to the US. There wasn't a dry eye. Technology can be awesome.

I know we love our technology and sometimes it gets a bad rap in that people are obsessed with it and such. I live far away from my parents and got to Skype with them one afternoon. The following week, my mom died in her sleep. I will be forever grateful that I got to see her one last time.

I love how my grandparents go on about "my" generation being obsessed with technology and that I can't do anything without my phone or laptop but the moment they can't get the internet to work I get frantically called to go to their house and fix it. Then once I fix it they look at me like I am a technology wizard.

I don't think any less of parents than CF people, but I do wish that we as a society would change such that everyone didn't have kids just because they're supposed to. We have the technology, we just need to change our mindset. Ideally no unplanned children would be born and with fewer kids, there would be the resources to make sure every single one of them had a loving family and the tools needed to succeed to the best of his or her ability.

Oh friend of mine...why do you complain about the "current generation" being so awful and not educated when your own damn Facebook post is misspelled? Also, during your rant on others relying on technology did you also notice your constant posting of your baby's day, the numerous pictures of food and requests to play Farmville? You aren't exactly perfect yourself so why nag at others?

I had my family over for the fourth. We has an awesome dinner, hung out, laughed a lot, and watched the fireworks. I even posted a pic of my mother and me on fb from my smart phone and (gasp!) still had a wonderful time. My family, who lives all over the country, enjoyed seeing the photo. I love technology! We're not all zombies who stare at our devices all day just because we might post a pick of a social gathering. Methinks some people are just bitter about not having as much fun as other people. (And cue the response posts!)
