I don't avoid going to the doctor for financial reasons. I have insurance and financially am doing OK. But I do avoid going to the doctor because they're just going to tell me to lose weight and dismiss my complaints as me being a woman and obviously just being dramatic. I swear I could go to the doctor with a gunshot wound to the head, and they would just tell me to lose weight. Or tell me it's just my period.

Sad that a grown-ass woman would really believe that there is a magic pill to lose weight.

I get so frustrated with my dad's wife. She asks me constantly about which supplements to take to lose weight. I have to be honest with her and tell her there AREN'T ANY. The ones out there that have claims do a few things: decrease your appetite a little, speed up your heart rate, give you horrific diarrhea, or are diuretic and make you lose water weight. Bottom line=you can't just add supplements and expect to lose any weight unless you actually are changing your eating plan. I wish more people understood that.

I know this is a really shallow reason to get the covid vaccine, but everyone I know who has had it has lost weight/ or been able to lose weight after dieting without previous loss. Has anyone else here experienced this? Not sure if it's just my area but it's really been the consensus from everyone....

Ugghh, I accidentally looked at myself in the mirror and blech. I've gained weight again. Some people can carry extra weight so attractively, like actual gorgeousness. I just look like an exhausted elephant.

I agree that some people have the ability to just have a single donut or candy bar every now and then, but those people aren't the ones that develop a weight issue in the first place.

I have to disagree with this.. Not always true about wanting more and more of the processed foods. Many people have the ability to just have a donut or candy bar every now and then and move on. I have kept my weight off for almost 10 years now mixing up my meal choices. Chest because if I choose to eat McDonald's one night doesn't mean I'm going to go off the rails and gain it all back. I get that whole, fresh, foods are way healthier, but let's be realistic here.

Here's the thing, today's processed food is literally engineered to make you hungry, so you eat (and buy) more of it. So while you can still have processed food and lose weight, you are not setting yourself up for long-term success. Food manufacturers spend billions of dollars trying to figure out how to change your brain chemistry to make you crave more food. And they've been pretty darn successful. You may be able to over ride that for a while, but eventually that processed food, no matter how little, will trigger your brain to want more and more, making it much, much harder to not over eat.

Oh, no, I get that you can have some processed food on any eating plan and still lose weight...what I more meant was "Is it better to cut out bread and donuts and cookies and only keep meat and butter and spinach or is it better to cut out bread and donuts and cookies and only eat potatoes and fruit and tons of veggies?" debate that goes on in the social media pages dealing with particular ways of eating. I prefer WFPB and including some processed foods as a way to maintain weight, but if you dramatically cut down on your intake of white breads, refined carbs, and just overall SAD food, you're probably going to lose weight no matter if you leave in mostly meat or mostly veggies. I think people get way too black and white about it and that's why most people can't stick to diets. You have to figure out what works for you and what you are willing to cut back on vs. not.

I respectfully disagree.. I count calories and use a food scale for accuracy. I eat a mix of healthy, whole foods with a little junky, processed, sugary foods in the mix too. I have lost almost 70 lbs and kept it off for years. You don't HAVE to eat a pristine, all natural, organic diet to lose weight. Some people, like myself, like dessert or fast food or chips sometimes. Just eat less calories and move more ( if possible). Pretty simple.
