I'm a nurse and probably anyone in the medical field understands the popularity of those shows. "My doctor said to do this, but I saw on Dr. Oz..."

This is what I’m scared of when I say I don’t want a diagnosis on my record. It’s one thing to have doctors/nurses who are taking care of me know my psych diagnoses. But like, what about police or insurers, or if I want to adopt a child or something. What if I have to undergo a health physical for a job and it comes out? I don’t want to be labeled and judged cause god knows this country does not have an OUNCE of understanding for mentally ill people.

I work at a hospital, and sometimes I'll accidentally click on the wrong document when I'm looking at a patient's chart. With most records, it'll go straight into the document, but our psych records are protected by something called "break the glass." Meaning, I'll accidentally click a psych note, and instead of viewing the document, a warning message will pop up saying that if I want to view the record, I have to click an icon that says break the glass, that "breaks" me into the document. If I do that, a notification is sent to my supervisor, the medical records supervisor, and the psychiatric behavioral health staff. So, in a nutshell, I'm in deep shit if I view a psych doc, because, as a cardiac nurse, I have no reason to do so. Hope that eases the op's mind a little.

Go to a psychiatrist. Get the diagnosis (or not). Psych records are considered to be even more sensitive than normal medical records. Unless you're a cop, or something along those lines, it should never even come into question. In a typical work situation, you should never have to answer a question about any diagnoses. I'm a nurse and am diagnosed as bipolar. I have human lives in my hands everyday. I am not my diagnosis. Also, if a patient has psych records in their chart, I can't even click on them without it notifying my employer, because I have no reason to access them. Don't be afraid to get help. It's worth it.

Any nurses here? - afraid to ask my own dr/nurse. I probably should get off ocp b/c of age (fit, don't smoke, no history of clots, etc) I am using cryselle 28 which is 0.3mg Norgestrel and 0.03mg Ethinyl estradiol, to regulate my periods (perimenopause), not for bc. But another option is norethisterone tablets to delay my period on occasion. Those are 5mg and to delay your period, you need to take 3/day for a day or few (depending). I have researched online but can't figure out which one is more dangerous to me. Something that is 0.3mg once a day just seems a lot less dangerous than taking 15mg of something in one day - that's my instinct...

So my mom is at the stage in her Alzheimer's where she is being violent. She got so violent with one of the nurses that the police had to be called. She tried to just about kill my dad. I'm sorry, but if I ever do get an Alzheimer's diagnosis and could ever be in a situation where I'd hurt my loved ones because I didn't know who they were, I'd be sick. This is why I plan on getting a lethal dosage of something fatal and planning my death. I will talk to DH about it and as soon as my quality of life starts suffering, I will plan an epic feast and have a party and then take my lethal dose. I do not ever want to put people I love through this kind of hell.

I'm tired of my DH telling me to 'dress up' or put on heels. I'm a nurse, I live in scrubs. I'm also training for a triathalon, so if I'm not in scrubs I'm wearing workout clothes. I literally have only the tiniest smidge of free time these days and when I do, I'd like to garden, watch movies or sit on the porch with some wine. DH and I get along great, we have a lot of shared interests which is why we married each other. We like to go biking together, fishing and hiking. I've NEVER been into dressing up or wearing heels or makeup. Now lately he's on this kick saying "I'd love to see you in a short skirt with heels" or "Why don't we buy you some new clothes?" I don't WANT to. I never have. And here's the irony. He's a guy who hates suits. He never wears them and complains incessantly if he has to dress up for a wedding etc. So it would be like me saying "Let's get you a new suit and you can start wearing it for me." He'd feel uncomfortable and wouldn't like it and therefore I wouldn't.

Yep. And even if you try to be nice, people are still shitty to you. I am always trying to be extra nice to the people who work with the general public--cashiers, DMV workers, cops, nurses, etc. because I have seen my fair share of people just unloading on them for stuff that isn't their fault.
