You assume too much. What makes you think I haven't? Some are more interested in talking about things that don't even involve them than dealing with things going on in their own lives. The saying goes, "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink." Meaning, I can talk about things that matter, but they're more interested in things that don't. The world today is so obsessed with technology and using it to anonymously bring down others in order to make themselves feel so superior. Then when someone calls them out on it, they get in a huff and pretend they're not bothered by it. If you take offense to it, then you know you're one of the ones that need to grow up.

I honestly don't know what to think of children getting left in hot cars, but I bet it has a lot to do with people being distracted by phones/technology.

I think it's annoying and narrow-minded that DH's family, esp his sister, thinks we are "gross" for watching the movie "Her". As if we - mostly him - want to be the same way as the main character. When she watched a murder movie, does that make her a murderer? I understand "Her" may seem a bit odd, but it was nice to watch something different. As someone who studied technology and how it related to a human perspective, I found it interesting. The fact that there are people out there who relate to computer-personalities that way, and how that story could very well become real. It made me think outside the norm and see how the character dealt with things in an unhealthy manner that was tech related (which I like because I studied tech) and watching things unfold... the problems the male character had with emotions and facing his issues and how that manifested with his OS GF, things like that. But of course SIL wouldn't get that, she isn't capable of thinking outside of her small world. All she sees is "dude likes computer, stupid"....I get if the movie isn't your taste - but assuming that my husband is "gross" and wants to "f**k a computer" because he watched it? Ignorant. I don't assume you want to eat people if you watched or enjoyed Silence of the Lambs.

Amish certainly use technology. I live in Amish country. THey can use cell phones if they are related to business. They can use power if it's generated with a gas generator.

I'm aware the Amish aren't supposed to use technology. They all do though. Every last one of them has a generator and a cell phone. They also ride in cars and pose for pictures. I've grown up in an area full of them. They aren't immune to hypocrisy.
