DS 7 had a friend stay the night. I just assumed he was capable of doing the same things as DS. I told him to get in the shower and showed him which one was the shampoo and soap. He looked dumbfounded as to why I was telling him. I asked what was wrong and he said that his mom usually gives him a shower. I told him how to do it because there is no way I was going to bathe a 7 year old boy. Then time comes to dress himself. He said his mom puts on his clothes for him. This morning when it was time to put on shoes so we could leave he needed me to put them on and tie them. The child doesn't have any mental delays and I am friends with his mother so I know there is nothing wrong with him to make her do everything for him. This does explain why he is so lazy and never does anything for himself. He was eating a snack at the table and I poured him some juice and told him to come get it because I was busy doing something at the moment. He just sat there and went without because he refused to get up and get it. I felt like I was dealing with a 2 year old all night.

I don't understand the mentality of "I'm going to tell everybody all the bad things that happen to me, and how poorly I'm always treated. " I have a friend that does this because she allows people to take advantage of her. I'd be embarrassed to tell people if I had been treated poorly, not brag about it!!

i broke up with my best friend of over 17 years. her personality changed for the worse. she would berate me and my tastes and make me feel like shit in front of other people. she patronized me for the fact that i didn't make as much money as her. she was incredibly self-centered and judgmental. she honestly thought she was better than other people who she deemed "lesser-than" due to their position in life. she had a quick temper and would blow up at me over any minor infraction. more and more i found myself having low self-esteem after hanging out with her. I spoke to her about this on multiple occasions and she would say it wasn't a big deal, i was too sensitive, or, on rare occasions, would give a half-assed apology. well i finally had enough and ceased all communication with her. i stopped responding to her texts/calls and unfollowed her on FB. The last time we had any communication was Oct of last year and I feel as if a giant weight has been lifted from my shoulders. what hurt the most about all this is that she would obviously treat her other, newer, more "professional" friends better than me. I guess she thought that since we had been friends for so long she could treat me any way she wished. no more. i find myself missing her sometimes but then i realize that it's the old her i miss, not the person she's become the past 5-6 years and the old her is gone. it sucks because i'm very introverted and don't make friends easily. plus making new, real friends gets infinitely harder the older you get (i'm approaching 30) but i'll be alright i guess.

I think the biggest problem with "kids" these days is the whole everyone gets a trophy mentality. As a result, they think they should get an A just for showing up every day, and then are blindsided when they learn that college (and the world) doesn't work that way. You don't get a raise and promotion just for showing up and doing your job; you get them by doing more and better than everyone else. It's a hard lesson when you get out on your own and realize that you really aren't that special.

I don't think I'll ever be happy with a house. I found one in the perfect location. Wonderful outside, but the inside I am already mentally moving walls and remodeling the kitchen.

I am so mad at myself. I allowed my parents to talk me into letting my 8yo see Xmen, against my better judgement of feeling he wasn't ready. Well, he just got in trouble at school for talking about shredding skin. Totally my fault for allowing it, my family is always pressuring me to let him see things and I have said no up to this point. So I text my mom about the incident and said don't bother asking anymore, this is why I said no. He is not mentally ready for these movies. I said I blame myself, I should not have said yes. She has the balls to say there's no skin shredding in X-men (arguing with me.) I said wtf do you think Wolverine does? She didn't text me back after that.

I left him almost 5 years ago after 10 years of marriage. I gave him the house, didn't ask for alimony, didn't touch his 401k which had about $120k in it at the time. I needed to be done, and to walk away was the best thing to do. I don't regret it. However, I was a grad student throughout our marriage and had no retirement savings of my own. Then I had to cash in my small 401k from the job I got after I married him because I needed to pay bills incurred from the divorce and moving etc. Now I am in a new job and my total 401k savings is $6500. That's all I currently have to retire on. I'm 40 years old. It will grow. It will be ok. But right now, I wish I'd taken half. I was owed half. Mentally and emotionally I did what was right for me then, but I can't help but feel screwed now.

I'm the OP with the mom that "broke up" with me. She's not much in my life. She tried to be a really involved grandma, almost controlling, but she uses the same mentality on my daughter that she did with me. So I distanced my family from her. When my daughter was nearly 3, she'd have her normal tantrums. My mom thought it was reasonable to explain to my daughter that her relationship with her is a luxury. While consoling my daughter after she calmed down. She rubbed her back and said to my daughter, "I'm a grandma because I want to be one. I don't have to care for you if I don't want to." Which is all true. She doesn't have to be there if she doesn't want to. But why tell a three year old that? It just made my daughter start sobbing. Then my mom went up to me and said, "I'm right aren't I? She has to realize family is a reward." That is not how I view family at all. Not to mention that I'm the only one of her children she did this to. And I'm the youngest. She says she is still a mother to my older brother and sister. Just not to me. She goes out with them. Takes them to lunch. Sees them regularly. Lends them money if they need it. Talks with them. Whenever she sees me, she is distant. I know I was different than my siblings. I was tough as a teenager. I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder when I was 14. My mom saw all these things as burdens or flaws in the family and usually thinks I am still the same crazy teenager. There's no use proving her differently despite me being a grown woman with college education, therapy, meds, a happy marriage, and her own home. I turned to a relationship with my father during the harsh times and she resents me for running to him. Wouldn't it hurt for your mom to judge you by the silly things you did as a teenager or if you were diagnosed with a disorder? My mom has no empathy and puts herself on a pedestal. That's all I've realized.

I get that veganism was born as an ethical movement. I would love it if I could just say that I'm plant-based, but the term vegan is actually more understood in my area. I am plant-based for health, environmental, and ethical reasons, but I still own some leather products. I do what I can in that regards. I respect true, ethical vegans, but I'm also happy that there are more people trying the plant-based lifestyle in any form at all.

I've apparently developed some sort of mental block against food. I almost never eat because the thought of where it comes from and how it's made and how many people touch it makes me so sick. I also have very little appetite over the last few months. I need to go get it checked but doctors and going to the doctor also grosses me out.
