We're bracing for a 40% (minimum) surge in patients. The community is really helping us by making medical grade PPE, just in case, but we're still unprepared. I've never seen anything like this in my 21 years of nursing. We'll make it, but I am not too proud to say I'm pretty scared of the future. The stats are terrifying. America is about to enter some dark days.

Yang's universal income is looking pretty fucking good right about now for most Americans. The entire service industry -which is primarily an industry filled with people that live paycheck to paycheck- is out of a job for the upcoming weeks. How the hell are these people supposed to survive this?

I'm trying to not worry. I have something going on with my bone marrow that they don't quite know what it is yet. My white count is low. I'm supposed to be staying away from sick people to avoid issues, but I have no way to work from home and I don't have enough PTO to take two weeks off. I hate everything that is corporate culture in America right now and I'm annoyed that only parents are allowed to take the time off in my company.

Maybe it's not that she's a woman, but people are racist against her because of her 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000001% Native American heritage.

Two things as an American I'm sick of hearing about: the Coronavirus hype, and Prince Harry/Megan Markle. Enough already!!

People are now getting death threats because they have coronavirus. I remember Americans getting annoyed last week that people thought they were stupid enough to stop buying Corona beer, and yet some of us are now acting as if anyone who looks vaguely Chinese is a disease vector and anyone confirmed to have the virus has done something wrong. It's a fuckin' virus man, if it's around you it's pretty impossible to not get. Might as well send people death threats every time they get a damn head cold.

I'm not surprised, but I'm still sad at the fact that the most competent candidate is being shut out because of her genitals. But America loves white men with rhetoric. Who needs solid plans, am I right?

I did a quick web search. It looks like 1-2% of people with Corona virus die, and between 10%-20% have to be hospitalized (or the death rate would be much higher). The guess right now is that the R0 for the Corona virus is between 2x and 7x that of the flu. And between 5-20% of American's get the flu every year. So going with the lowest numbers possible, if the Corona virus ends up being like the flu: 5% of Americans will get the flu in a year, so assume 10% will get the Corona virus. Of those 10%, 1% will die, and 10% will need to be hospitalized. There are 300M people in the US. So, in a year, 30M Americans will get the Corona virus, and 3M will need to be hospitalized, and 300,000 will die from it. Right now, 16,000 Americans have died from the flu in the US this year. Feel free to discuss - I'm not saying my napkin numbers are right, but if they are, I can see why they are trying to contain this virus.

When people complain about crazy Bernie supporters they know in real life, I just want to say...maybe you just have some friends and relatives who are jerks. (We all do!) I'm a member of the Democratic Socialists of America. I'm invited to an event with Bernie Sanders on Monday. It's safe to say that I know a lot of Bernie supporters. I don't know anyone who acts like this. The Bernie supporters I know are intelligent, idealistic, and hard working. They are knocking doors, phone banking, and canvassing to get him elected. Some of them are traveling to other states to do so. They are willing to engage respectfully with people they don't agree with- hundreds of them. So instead of blaming Bernie Sanders, why not think about the people you choose to have around you? Please don't paint us all with the same brush.
