I have the bipolar DH who picks on my dog. I just had a horrible customer service experience caused by a companys error that may result in more expense for me. Of course I gut upset with the company on the phone. DH comes out and tells me I should watch how I talk to people. By now I practically in tears because of the company's screwup. I explained the situation to him, big expense, etc, all I said to the company rep was "that is no way to do business and I do not appreciate being jerked around" It is not like I was swearing or calling anyone names. DH just kept saying "you should not talk to people like that" I am so sick of being put last, he is more worried about a stranger who didint do their job properly than he is about my feelings. There is something seriously wrong with him, and I cannot wait to be single again. He will let me sit in agony with nothing to drink when I had my back problem about a month ago, but God forbid I say some little thing to a stranger.

Yup, there is someone in my family with bipolar. She has wreaked financial havoc on herself and her family due to her grandiose thoughts. She will think she has millions and spends accordingly. She has destroyed her savings, retirement and credit and now at 57 lives paycheck to paycheck and can barely hang onto a job.

If you've never known anyone with bipolar disease or dementia, of course you would have a hard time believing some posts. Unfortunately, it is all too familiar if you've lived with someone with these problems. My friend's husband ordered 14 items from the Herrington catalog that they don't need and can never use. Another friend's mother is mad because her daughter won't let her send $50 and airfare to someone who promises to get her in the Academy Awards ceremony. These are in the last 2 days. Taking care of the messes they create is a full-time job.

I am the poster with the bipolar DH who just bought the 5 acre farm. I wish to God these confessions were fake. I don't have anyone to vent to in real life about it because people don't believe how bad he is. He just got put on Lamictal for the bipolar, but it's not doing anything yet because they have to start him at 25mg so he doesn't get SJ syndrome. He has been driving me absolutely insane lately. He has been clingy and horribly manic and the Seroquel he has to knock himself out isn't cutting it. I love him, I really do, but I can't handle this anymore. I feel like a failure for this. I feel like I failed the marriage.

I'm the OP with the DH who screamed about the vacuum smelling bad. He was having a mantrum. He's bipolar, which isn't an excuse, but yeah...he was having a moment.

My DH and I were having a serious discussion about the future and how we're bummed about the oil stocks we bought. DH said we should invest in something better. I've been doing my research and I have decided that I am going to apply for med school! I want to specialize in psychiatry because I know there is a huge shortage of good psychiatrists in the state and because of my DH's bipolar disorder, I have basically been having a 10 year crash course in dealing with symptoms and figuring out from experience what works to help them. I just have to get my letters of recommendation, which may be hard since I graduated college 12 years ago. Wish me luck, everyone!

After being married to someone with bipolar disorder, I'm beginning to see why so many untreated mentally ill people end up homeless and alone. It's exhausting to deal with most of the time.

I have the bipolar DH who refuses meds or therapy, and was unhelpful to me with my back agony. My tenant in my other house is preapproved for a mortgage! I am going to go with my plan of moving there when they move out, and then evicting DH from MY house. He is going to visit his parents the last week in March. Hopefully they will be out by then. And today with the dog, he asked what her problem was because he didint like the way she was looking at him. He sat down next to her and pointed his finger in her face. She growled. I told him to leave her alone and left the room. When I came back a minute later, he was sitting next to her with his hand covering her eyes. I told him to stop, he said he was just trying to calm her down but he stopped. She is a small chi/terrier mix about 10 years old.

I'm the OP with the screaming DH. Thank you all for the kind words. I know this is not a good situation. I just have to figure things out. He apologized to me and went back to the therapist to apologize to her, but sorry only goes so far. He is supposed to get his bipolar meds adjusted in a week and he swears that will help him act rationally when he's angry. Meanwhile, I have about $6K saved and I have my own car, so I can leave if things escalate. I am just looking for a place to live that will let me keep my dog and work on finding a job that has more hours. I know deep down that this is not my fault, but it's really hard to believe that sometimes.

I posted earlier about my DH not taking his meds for his bipolar disorder and it causing him to have some episodes of rage that were directed at me. Besides getting his medication switched, he has also agreed to add fish oil (it really is supposed to help stabilize moods) and start eating better to help his moods. He agreed that what he did was absolutely NOT okay and he knows that he is ultimately in control of himself. He doesn't want to blame his behavior on his bipolar disorder. I know he does love me and I love him, despite his mental illness. We're still going to go to counseling though, because I don't think he thinks he's abusing me when he says horrible things to me. He needs a refresher course on what constitutes verbal abuse.
