Are you on Goodreads? It has reviews and I think a lot of them are helpful. I love that site because I can keep track of what I read and it tells you what number in a series a book is. Sometimes it's hard to figure out. According to my GR list I have read 1785 books, but I know that's not totally accurate because I just started keeping track about 7 years ago so a ton of stuff I read when I was younger, I just can't remember.

I don't read book reviews on Amazon anymore. So many of them are either people who nitpick a book apart, or admit that they only read a few chapters before deciding they didn't like it and start bashing the author. So many of my favorite books and ebooks have shitty reviews, but I ended up really enjoying them.

What the hell is wrong with people? A lady posted on fb today that because of the company she works for is doing away with differential pay she lost $165 this paycheck and only has $70 to last her for food until next pay day. The first reply was from someone saying she had a way for her to make extra money she just needed to sign up under her to sell Usborne books. (If you don't know what that is, it is a MLM company for books.) Seriously, this lady is struggling to feed herself and the first thing you do is hit her up to become a team member on your MLM shit so you can make money off of her!

Step 1 Meet acquaintance's dog of rare breed that's plagued with numerous genetic diseases that are extremely expensive to treat Step 2 Go online and scour craigslist and nextdaypets.com, buy one Step 3 Get some books about the breed and start reading Nope, nothing out of whack there...

It's my first Mother's Day. All I want is some doughnuts, coffee and some books.

What are you reading? I've got two Margaret Atwood books ( Robber's Bride and Cat's Eye), Down City, a new book about Jonestown, Get Well Soon, which is about plagues and Printers Error ("irreverent stories from book history"). So happy it's the weekend. If it's nice out I'll read at the beach. If it rains I'll stay in and read. Reading is always a win-win.

Lol, got it! I am not into any of that stuff either, but where my dh grew up those are what the "real humans" do. Throw in hunting and fishing anything that moves and you have the Iron Range. We visit up there and it's like, where the fuck am I? I like drinking and socializing with my friends, but we talk about books, politics, current events, movies (and not the Fate and the Furious), religion, etc. We were just in Denver to visit some friends and while we were smoking marijuana we were discussing genocide. My friend had recommended a horrifying book about it and we discussed that too. We also gossiped, because we love to gossip. I'm going up north this weekend for a wedding (a friend of dh's) and boy is it going to be awful! I always have the best stories to tell after spending time on the Range.

When ds would have a project, we'd go to the library for some books on the subject if we didn't have any, then go to the crafts store. He'd plan out the project and I'd assist where necessary. We'd spend a lot of time on it so he knew the subject matter, not just slapped something together. So one time he came home and said he had a project on a country I've been to lots of times. Great! That night he went to his dad's for the weekend. Came home Sun and said SM wants to help bc she went to that country once. Did they do any work on it that weekend? No. Um...he will only be there one more time for a few hours before it's due! Oh, not to worry - SM did the whole thing, all he had to do was glue things to the poster. "Ds" got an 89 because several key points were missing. This country played an important role in history but he learned nothing about it. He knows their favorite snack food, though. I was so mad!

I too loved the Scholastic book fair. When I graduated from sixth grade, I convinced my parents to order me tons of books as a graduation gift, in order to keep me busy over the summer. It was AWESOME. Choose Your Own Adventure? Adventures of the Great Brain? I loved that shit.
