'Insane' or 'Insanity' is not a psychological term, it is a legal one. The psychological community users the team mental unstable. The legal community needed a way to describe this in court documents and created the team for their use. It's always nice to learn something new.

No, you didn't offend me and I'm not defending YOU. I'm defending people who are hurt by these terms. Is your diagnosis narcissism? Because believe it or not you are not the only mentally ill person in this world.

OK, here's a question and I am curious to hear peoples' opinions. I don't condone the use of the word retard, not at all. But what about terms like "idiot" and "moron" that were legitimately used to describe forms of mental disability in the past? At what point is a medical term so far out of use that you can use it as an insult? Or are "idiot" and "moron" also ableist?

"Less intelligent" is not a mental health condition or a disability. There's a difference between calling someone a dumbass and calling them a retard. Calling someone a bitch has nothing to do with racism or homophobia. Bitch as a term isn't necessarily negative at all. Lots of people refer to their friends as their bitches.

Oh I see. So it's not OK to call someone an insulting racial term. It's not OK to use a slur based on disability. But it's OK to call people schizo, bipolar, say they need to see a shrink or need to take meds or are off their meds. I get it. Mentally ill people are the only demographic it's still OK to speaking of in insulting terms, then?

Using insults based on someone's sanity, regardless of whether they actually have a mental condition or not, is a form of ableism and is just as offensive as calling someone a retard or a spaz...and yes, spaz is offensive if you consider where it came from.

Abuse can be different for everyone. My mother never hit me(aside from spankings, which is a whole different argument), but she sure as hell drove me mentally nuts with her mind games and emotional manipulation. The emotional and mental damage is pretty permanent. Gotta agree with the below poster (hope she's still below) when/how should I be classified as a *real* abuse victim?

The concept of space is just...amazing. I love learning about it but I have to do it in short bursts, because it gives me this weird feeling I've heard described as "mental vertigo". The thought that we are just a blip in a universe that is older than we know is just so hard to wrap your head around no matter how many different planets, stars, comets and nebulae you learn about.

You know what is worse than trashy? Sexist as fuck. Old guy thinking he was entitled to young pussy just because and whining because women didn't behave the way he expected them to. Sticking up for PUAs. Constant #notallmen-ning and denigrating women, calling them cunts. Islamophobia. Because that's who he was. I'll take trashy over a judgemental shitbomb.

I used to feel bad that trees were chopped down only to stand for 30 days in living rooms until they dried to a near crisp, then thrown into the garbage. It was such an awful waste. Then along came the greenery recycle program and it made me happy to know they didn't die in vain any longer, but they would eventually be put to good use once again back into the soil. The tree is my favorite part of Christmas. Today I'm taking mine down and driving it over to the greenery recycle spot for my neighborhood. I'm already feeling sad, like I do each year, that I have to say goodbye and drive away. I've thanked it a few times already for coming into my home and bringing me joy from it's beauty and fragrance. Wonder why I get so sentimental over the tree?
