Calling someone a slur is worse than calling them a body part. If I called someone a racial slur would you still claim that was equal to calling someone a vagina? Come on. It's just true that is far more acceptable to insult someone with a slur on the intellectual ability or mental fitness (ie, "retard" or calling someone schizo) than it is to call them a racial slur. We're way behind on accepting mental illnesses and disabilities.

A cunt is just a vagina. In fact, the base of the word is very very old, found in Germanic and Norse languages, and I believe there are some ancient goddess who take the root of the word (Kun) as part of their name. It's simply the perception of the word that people find vulgar, it doesn't refer to anything other than a body part and the uptightness about the word reflects the uptightness about female sexuality in general. A retard is a total slur and offensive to people with mental disabilities. It is FAR more offensive, it just happens to not be a swear word.

People who have never had to be a caregiver just don't understand everything that is involved. It is physically and mentally draining. The guilt involved can be catastrophic. Getting the person outside help can be damn near impossible, especially when caring for an adult who fights any attempts made at getting outside help. It ain't easy and if you haven't been there and done that, keep your judging to a minimum.

Im the OP with sick dad. Yes I was only spending about an hour day helping him, but his condition has worsened in the past 2 weeks or so and I have been taking time off of work or leaving early. My current job has a very strict attendance policy and lots of turnover. The commute is long and I do not want to be 45 minutes away. I posted yesterday that I already have another job lined up. I appreciate the supportive comments I have gotten on here. I am doing the best I can with the shitstorm that is raining down on me right now. As for the bitchy/judgmental comments, I pray that those posters never have to care for an ill parent. Every situation is different. I am also taking the Lorazepam, but only about half what the doc prescribed and its helping. It takes the edge off of my anxiety without turning me into a zombie.

Elderly people can't always help the way they act. Even those without full fledged dementia may be in constant pain or they have some other mental illness that developed late in life. Or they are afraid and lash out at everyone. They develop a suspicion of everyone. Then no one including their kids likes them. That's the way it's always been.

I'm the OP with the problem with my sister. God you guys are terrible. Here's the scenario: Sister is grabbing ingredients, I'm at the stove, mom is near the sink and my daughter is next to her washing vegetables. Grandma goes, "Woo it's a little crowded in here." Mom says, "Yes, *daughter's name*, how about you go help great-grandma." Daughter whines a little to stay because she wants to help. Right as I am about to turn around and escort my daughter out, sister goes, "GOD, GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN." Grabs her by the arm, pulls her out and once she is already out, my sister shoves her once again when her back is already to her. My sister is physically in between me and my daughter. My daughter grabs on to my mom because she is completely terrified and starts to scream. My daughter was not acting like a brat before asked to leave and she didn't fully understand why she had to, she was just physically being in the kitchen. Her bratty behavior that I was referring to, was the whining to not leave the kitchen. It happened fast. She acted more defiant because my sister is not one to even talk to her or play with her or act like a serious adult around her. I wouldn't expect my daughter to listen to my sister because she is practically a stranger to her. And I wasn't expecting my sister to act as she did because my sister, once again, is not too familiar with my daughter. When I said I didn't even get a chance to intervene, I literally did not because my sister went from 0 to 10 in a millisecond. Y'all are judgmental as fuck. What my course of action was to be, was after my daughter whined, turn around, take her hand, and tell her she's going to go help somewhere else so we can finish cooking our yummy food. I'm not going to physically grope and pull and shove my daughter while yelling at her for a situation she didn't understand. P.S. I mentioned her size and weight because my sister is extremely strong and left marks on my daughter's arm. My daughter was helpless in that situation. I'm hurt because I failed to even protect her from a situation that happened in such a flash and hurt MY kid. I feel helpless and overpowered by someone who shouldn't have done that. EXCUSE ME for letting it out in a place that somewhat feels safe to talk about the shitty things that happen in my parenting life.

I am so sick of judgemental women. Always sizing up other women for how fat they are, or how made up or not made up they are. Or how they dress, whether they look frumpy or fashionable. It's seriously so annoying. I wish people could just accept each other. I have a lovely friend who I've seen publicly dissed because she's fat and dresses out of style. She doesn't have much money and what she does have, she gives to her kids. It's just the way she is, she is not going to change but people are always trying to change her. I've seen how embarressed it makes her. She is so lovely inside, such a big and giving heart and I'm sad to see her hurt so many times and for such shallow reasons.

I don't confess about this situation because I don't want to seem biased towards a child. But I am so confused and at my wits end. I haven't even talked to my friends and family about this situation (with the exception of 1 who is not immature, judgemental, or hysterical). DSS is a very, very troubled child. He is not mean, or disrespectful, just troubled. He has a psychiatrist who has him on several meds. We only have visitation. There have always been behavioral problems, but lately things have gotten worse. He exposed himself in a sexual manner to my young son (no physical contact), threatened us bodily harm then lied about it, and now steals. He is a preteen. The one person I told said to ban him from my home. I have tried very hard to love this kid, but I don't know if I can live in constant fear of him doing something ridiculous. I need to have a heart to heart about it with DH. DH does not make excuses for him, and definitely punishes him, but DSS finds all kinds of random excuses for his behavior. He has been in therapy for years. I love him, but I will not allow my children to be sexually or physically abused and I am afraid that it will come to that. Where/how do I draw the line and say no more, he's not welcome?

I always see people talking crap about Republicans and Christians being so judgmental and close minded. I am not saying they aren't because I have met many in those categories that are but Democrats and non-Christians are just as judgmental and close minded as well. There is always someone on one side saying the other is wrong. Everyone needs to just do their thing and keep their nose out of the other one's business. This country is screwed up not because of religion and politics but because everyone thinks the entire country needs to view things and live just like they do. A Christian does something and non-Christians attack them for their views. A non-Christian does something and a Christian attacks them as well. Same with politics. It is so exhausting listening to everyone battle their views. Americans are immature brats always whining about someone not liking what they like or being politically correct. People need to get their heads out of their asses and start dealing with the fact that there are millions living in this country and there are a million different ways to live your life and view things. No wonder the rest of the world think Americans are such spoiled idiots because that is how everyone acts.

How to advise my friend. Her son is in his 40's and she has realized he has a drinking problem. He seems delusional about some things to the point that his mental health concerns her. He's talked family mbrs into investing into a product that seems slightly bogus to her. She says an intervention isn't possible at present because that would require getting everyone on the same page. She isn't real close to his wife and doesn't know his doctor. She wants to maintain a good relationship because she is in failing health and occasionaly depends on him for help (not financial). I already told her this isn't going to get better by itself but she doesn't know where to start to help him and she doesn't want to turn him or other family members that she's close to against her. Any ideas?
