The woman who recently ended her suffering has gotten me thinking. I don't understand why people say suicide is selfish. Most would say that someone who is suffering from a terminal illness should not have to, if they don't want to, but the major reason for suicide is mental illness. Why are these people expected to continue to suffer, but someone with cancer, we understand and support their right to stop treatment and die. I think it's because we blame mentally ill people for their problems. Some mental illness cannot be treated, nothing seems to work, whether the sufferer tries or not. I believe my brother will eventually end his own life because of his mental illness. I won't be mad at him if he does. He takes the pills and speaks to a councillor. He's not getting better and I think a lot of it is he is so caught up in it that its all he has in life.

Said this in a comment but I think it bears repeating: fat-shaming DOES NOT MAKE PEOPLE LESS FAT. It does not work. It only serves to make people miserable and does nothing to make anybody healthier. If you're really concerned about peoples' physical health, then attacking groups that are concerned with their mental health is not the way to go.

I have never ever felt like i wanted to spend the rest of my life with someone. I've always kind of had the "let's see how it goes" mentality. LOL, my marriage has lasted 22 years, so I guess it's working for me!

My former MIL was a 'god fearing woman'. Ha, she was judgemental and critical as all get out. She went to church and confessed and belonged to the 'right' church so she was assured a place in heaven (according to her ) whereas those who believed in the 'wrong religion' were destined to go to hell. Even innocent children, in her mind, would go to hell if they were not 'saved' in time. What kind of sick God would set people up like that? I quickly learned not to argue with her because she had a foul mouth and wouldn't hesitate to call me a whore, bitch, slut, etc. But don't worry, she's going to Heaven for sure!

My husband does have a mental illness. Seems like depression. Not a huge diagnosis - just told a professional and was given meds. Has an appt with a therapist. It's obvious though, but is it just depression? Bi-polar? Not sure. It's been difficult, but a lot of the problem is circumstance too - job loss, moving, a military separation and financial issue. Not to mention his health problems. It's tough though. You never think it'll happen to you when you are in the early stages of romance.

I really feel for spouses that deal with their spouse that has a mental illness. Those are strong people in my eyes, because in all honesty, I don't think I could deal with that. I don't think I have the patience or empathy. I'm a pretty weak person.

My husband is 18 years older than me. I am not ashamed of it, but people say some incredibly rude and judgmental stuff about us. It really sucks.

Grammar doesn't bother me but something that really grates on my nerves is when you post something up for sale second hand in a forum where people can reply. And they just say "Much?" Not even "how much?" Have some fucking manners and at least attempt to form a proper sentence, however poorly constructed it is. "how much do you want for it?" is not going to take you very long and you come out sounding less like Og the caveman. Sometimes I think the internet is causing serious developmental regression in humans.

Wow. The most judgmental "only selfish people get divorced person" I know just got divorced. See? When you have yours reasons, sometimes it's the right choice. Even you...wow.
