Lol, yesterday my boss requested to chat with me about my development (she's said she was too busy 99% of the times I've asked in the last 4 months). She asked why it's been a while, I told her she and my mentor have both told me they're too busy. She wanted to let me know that there are going to be 2 spots for promotions opening up next month and that I should prepare to interview for them. I wonder if she senses that I might be leaving for greener pastures (911 dispatch). I still have a couple weeks until my panel interview. I'd like to stay at my company if they paid me more and allowed for more structure. But also, I doubt they'll promote me because I'm one of the very few who has the courage to respectfully call management out when they're being shitty or not doing their job- including my boss's boss.

So when it rains, it pours. Right after I interviewed for the job I was offered, I accepted an interview for a small company doing project management work. I had the interview today and it would pay literally twice what I am making at the job I was just offered. If they offer me the job, I may take it. The commute is longer, but it's also a good learning experience and I would be doing work that's a lot more satisfying for me.

I'm freaking out. The company that hired me is trying to verify my education and said they couldn't get any information from my alma mater about me ever being enrolled there. I don't know what to do--I emailed them that I was there under my maiden name and gave that to them, so maybe that's all they'll have to do to find me. Otherwise, I think I could probably send them transcripts. Gah, why do I stress so much about crap like this?

Transition has been utterly insane at work. I started 7 months ago. Around that time, two long-time staff quit, hired new staff, but she quit a month later, another quit (move back to New Zealand), 4 new hires, another quit (move to Seattle), I got a promotion, and just learned today one of the few remaining long-time staff has quit for a position closer to home. Really wild sh*t and we're just a team of 10.

Dear Elderly CW: Go. The fuck. HOME. If there is no work for you, LEAVE! You're fucking killing me puttering around here fucking muttering to yourself- punctuating it all with the odd audible fart. *headdesk*

Congrats! I did the police dispatch test last week and passed with a 94%. The trainer seemed to be very excited for me, but the hiring process is very involved. Next step is a panel interview with her and 2 other employees, which the next available is at the end of the month. From there, it'd be another 4-8 weeks for a polygraph and background check. And then the training is about 40 weeks! I'm hopeful for this opportunity though.

A coworker asked for a meeting with me, and then told me he was going to report me on an issue I resolved months ago. I was blindsided. This is someone I see every day and he has never said anything. He said he was going to call me out in a meeting. He's leaving the job in three weeks, by the way. I told him to say whatever he wants in the meeting. He said, well, he's not going to do that, but he's going to make phone calls. I told him fine, but that in the future he should deal with these issues in a more timely and collegial manner. Today he texted to apologize for blindsiding me, but said I needed to communicate more respectfully. I told him that, actually, I was the one who had told him to communicate more respectfully, and that I had done so in person yesterday. I also told him that I did not respect the way he had handled the issue, hence my tone, but that I did appreciate his apology. Did he expect me to apologize to him? What a prick!

The place I had to go to do my drug test was this sketchy clinic that sold vapes and CBD oil. WTF??

Minimum wage for tipped employees in 2018 is $3.52/hr. And that's in our state. The federal minimum wage is $2.13. It's so disgusting it should be criminal to pay people a wage like that. The fact that they also make tips does not matter. That is a slave wage. Fun fact: In Alaska, the minimum wage is the same for tipped and non-tipped employees.

Ok, soapbox rant here. A local family-run restaurant in our town had to close because they didn't have enough people working there. The owner was all "poor me" about it in the news but he's paying people minimum wage to work there. Lots of other businesses nearby pay assemblers, chefs, waitresses, etc. at least $3 an hour more. If companies want to stay in business, PAY PEOPLE A FAIR GODDAMN WAGE.
