Not sure what kind of people you're hanging around with, lol, but who assumes that you can't cook or do laundry just because you don't have kids?? What's so surprising about a child free person cooking dinner? How weird.

I wish people wouldn't assume I am completely incompetent about things just because I don't have kids---yes, I can cook, pack a car properly, do laundry, plan a week's worth of meals and do meal prepping, and do crafts. You don't have to have kids to learn these things, so why are so many of my mom friends surprised that I would cook dinner most nights a week?

We asked him to come live with us a year ago, and he said he doesn’t want to live with anyone. He’s capable of paying his bills and answering his phone....he just doesn’t care. I told him I’ll be at his place a week from today, and that he can go for a ride with DH while I clean his apartment and get his laundry done. He said the manager has said nobody is allowed in the building, and I told him that’s not true because I already asked. He kept us away for years before he lost his house and it’s not gonna happen again. He stopped his county-funded housekeeper in March because he think everyone has ‘it,’ and I know it’s a pig sty. So now I’m paying his bills, keeping him current with his responsibilities, and will be his housekeeper. Meanwhile, my brother hasn’t called him in three weeks, and when I question him, he gets defensive.

He's obviously too old to be living on his own. Can he come live with you, or another family member?

My almost 86-year-old Dad lost his home (to a reverse mortgage my brother and I knew nothing about) a year ago. DH spent three weeks cleaning the filth that he lived in (he hadn’t let us in for the past four years) and helped him pack to move out. I found him subsidized housing, did all the paperwork, and within three weeks we moved him in. This week I’ve learned his rent decreased by $35 in March but since he refuses to set up a new online bill pay password the recurring payments have put him $175 over. He underpaid his cable for eight months and he got a disconnect notice, his car insurance lapsed, and his case manager (need one to move into subsidized housing) has tried and failed to reach him for three months. He was about to be evicted due to no contact and I just spent three hours making it all better. He doesn’t think it should be a big deal. I’m at the end of my rope.

I'm worried about my 25yo son. He was laid off for the winter before all this covid shit happened, and now since he was the newest hire last year they're not calling him back. He's getting UIA money but he's really depressed and stuck and just miserable. He's home all day long with his 3yo DD and he's not doing right by her (IMO) because he's so miserable. He doesn't tidy her hair every day or even wash her face & hands after she eats. Some days he doesn't even dress her. He doesn't take her outside to play. She was doing better with potty training before and now she's regressing. She colored on the wall and he didn't even stop her. I'm worried. His wife works in a care home so she's still working a lot. I never see her. I'm worried about all of them. And now yesterday he was making noises about joining the army. I have no idea what to do.

My SIL thought about it, but she'd have to quit her job to make it work. That isn't an option for a lot of people, plus homeschool is a lot of work on its own. I guess if you have the time and patience for it, go for it. My aunt homeschooled all my cousins and they did okay, but she also really made them work more than probably what a typical instructor would.
