I've been up close and personal with a pet monkey. It had reddish fur but its skin underneath was white. So calling a black person a monkey was inaccurate to begin with, if that was supposed to be insulting. So maybe it wasn't about the skin color of the animal. Maybe it was about blacks and monkeys both came from Africa. Is it an insult to say someone came from Africa? I know some people born in Africa and they are proud to be from there. But there are Asian monkeys too. If you call a person of Asian origin a monkey, is that an insult? Monkeys are very clever. I'd be OK with someone calling me a monkey.

No, you can't compare a black person to a monkey. It is grotesquely racist. I can give you a history lesson, because obviously you missed the whole treating blacks as less than human and comparing them to animals part of our country's history, but I don't think it would even penetrate your thick head. If someone said Obama was the equivalent of a monkey throwing its poo everywhere, some might consider that racist, because you can't equate a black person with a monkey for some reason (I've been told, also can't equate a black person with a dog). But you can say it about Trump? Because you can equate a white person with a monkey? I don't understand what's racist and what's not anymore. Whatever, don't insult monkeys.

The only time I would intellectual as an insult would be if I thought the person was NOT an intellectual, but just trying to pretend to be one.

I find it hilarious when people use the term "intellectual" as an insult. It usually comes from ultra-right wing types.
