How is it possible that the right wing always claims the left politicizes everything? Like they successfully convinced everyone gay people were doing wrong and then bitched they were sick of hearing about politics when gay marriage was the big thing, now it's the transgender people...pretty sure neither of these groups *want* to be political. Then they successfully managed to politicize science not once but twice, with climate change and Covid. They politicized wearing a fucking face mask. They're just literally guilty of everything they accuse others of at this point. Literally all of their "arguments" boil down to, "No, you."

In response to a confession. I (a Veteran) totally get what you're saying. But what pisses me off even more is - THIS DAY IS NOT ABOUT VETERANS. That's what Veteran's Day is for. THIS day is for remembering those who lost their lives in wars. I'm effing sick of people saying, "Happy Memorial Day! Enjoy the long weekend!" There's nothing effing "happy" about it!!!

It's Memorial Day, and I have to say this again. Just because someone is a veteran doesn't mean they are automatically a hero or great person. Jeffrey Dahmer was a veteran. I work with veterans every day. Many are great people. But A LOT are violent racist, sexist, homophobic assholes who joined the military so they could "kill Arabs and commies." The rate of domestic violence in the military is a lot higher than the general population. A relative only enlisted "to get free shit." He was in for the minimum at the time of 2 years. Not a day more. Then collected his free college education and VHA mortgage. He admittedly would have never joined if there was a risk of being deployed. He never left the US. But he still collects every veterans discount he can. But nobody talks about this. We have it shoved down our throats that all veterans are some noble, wonderful person. They're not.

In response to a confession. Yeah, I'm waiting to see what happens here. DS and I are vaxxed. DH refuses to, even though he travels extensively for work and regularly goes out to restaurants and bars in different states. If he ends up getting sick, he'll expect me to drop everything to cater to him.

So would-be immigrants are getting sterilized at the border, there's a new Texas bill threatening abortion, and Marjorie Fuckface Green just compared vaccination cards to "Jewish stars." It's smelling increasingly Handmaid's Tale in here. Might need to make that early immigration to Canada.

I can't believe that A. some people are so stupid to think that if you criticise the actions of the Israeli state, you're an automatic antisemite...Dude, don't claim racism when you're trying to do a genocide, that's fucking ridiculous, you're literally the oppressor here (the oppressor being the state of Israel and its supporters, NOT all Jewish people.) And B. that attacking random Jewish people or random synagogues in any way does anything positive. When are we going to stop punishing PEOPLE for the actions of the STATE? I don't hate Muslims because I despise the Saudi government. This idiotic tribalism we have is absolutely going to be our downfall.

My sister had about 15 people over on Mother's Day. My dad and I went because we're both vaccinated. My sister and her mil are also vaccinated. Everyone, literally every single person who attended that party, who is NOT vaccinated just tested positive for covid-19. My sister, dad, sister's mil, and I are fine. In case you're wondering if the vaccine works. My sister's husband had been teasing her about getting the vaccine, so she's feeling pretty smug right now, while he's sick on the couch.

Between the gas shortage, real estate skyrocketing, stock market bubble, etc. My anxiety is *really* bad. I don't know what to do and it's scary. I wish there was somewhere safe to go, but I feel like it's too late and the rest of the world isn't great either. Not sure if I should be stockpiling emergency food things or what.

In response to a confession. Real Estate con't: Even though prices here are soaring, it's still cheaper than California or New York, where A LOT of the folks are moving here from. The bigger problem is that appraisals are not keeping up with sold prices. So houses aren't appraising at the value of the offer. That means if you're financing through a bank, you have to make up the difference. So people are having to bring $250K or more to closing on an $800K house (average cost in my zip). And a lot of people don't have $250K cash lying around. Someone actually offered us $929K for our house. We have absolutely no intention of selling. At all. But they lost out on our neighbor's house and loved ours and the location. We paid $280K for it 15 years ago. I love my house. We have made it in to our perfect home, and even I don't think it's work $929K. But if that's what someone is willing to pay, that's what it's worth.

In response to a confession. The zip code where I live was recently cited as having the 6th highest increase in value in the country. No, it's not foreign investors. My neighbor recently went through a divorce and put her house on the market. She received 26 offers in 24 hours. Not a single one was from a foreign investor. Sold info isn't public record in my state, but m job allows me to see that info. So I can see who's winning these buying wars, and it's not investors. The crazy thing is that there are actually bidding wars for rentals here now. People are unable to win bids to by a house, and are just desperate to find a place to live that's zoned to schools. So they're giving up buying for now and trying to rent, causing people to even bid up rent prices. Most of our increase is people relocating from other states or even other parts of the city. Now that so many people will be working from home for good, they don't need to be close to the office any more. Con't
